Shepard Fairey (Obey Giant)
Shepard Fairey is one of the most influential contemporary artists working at the intersection of art, design, and activism. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, and trained at the Rhode Island School of Design, Fairey emerged from the street art world in 1989 with the now-iconic Andre the Giant Has a Posse sticker—an experiment in visual disruption that evolved into the globally recognized OBEY GIANT campaign.
Over the decades, Fairey’s work has reshaped how art functions in public space. His imagery blends propaganda aesthetics, bold graphic design, and political commentary to challenge power, authority, and complacency.
